Author Interview~ Morgan

Hey everyone! Did you remember this post when I did a cover reveal for Morgan? Well, excting news!!! Her book is about to
come out! I have already read it and loved it! I’ll be doing a review on it this Saturday so be looking for that. Today, I’ll
be showing you all an author interview that I did with her. 🙂 I hope that you all enjoy it!
1. What first inspired you to write?

Hmm. That was so long ago, it’s hard to know for sure. It was probably books. I would bring my mom stacks of books for her
to read to me when I was a toddler, and sit there through the whole stack. I’m not really sure of the circumstances
surrounding the first story I dictated to my mom, which I’ve recently come to realize could qualify as Bambi fanfiction,
but I was pretty young, and I haven’t really stopped since. I just love creating characters and learning their stories.
So many fictional people have lived portions of their lives in my brain already, even since I was a toddler.
2. Which book has been your favorite so far?

The Experiment was such an incredible writing experience it sort of claims the title of favorite, though I love all my
books. Of the Time Captives books, book two, The Crossways, would probably be my favorite because it’s where my favorite
characters get their story. But the companion to Time Captives, Espionage, is also very much beloved because the
characters were so easy to develop and I love them and their story. It’s also the first story to leave me with a burning
desire to write a sequel whenever I finish a read-through. Sadly, no one outside of family and beta readers will get to
see Espionage until next year.
3. How many books are you working on now?

Ho, hum, depends on what you call working. I’m off and on working on polishing up the rest of Time Captives and Espionage
for publication, writing the first draft of an outer space dystopian in between (I love this story because it’s helping
me to see ordinary things in a whole new light, among other things), sometimes writing an epic (or going to be, I hope)
sci-fi-ish, fantasy-ish, heart-wrenching adventure story, occasionally writing a bit about some favorite characters who
go into hiding when the government is after them because they’re Christians, outlining and writing snippets of an
Espionage sequel…
4. Do any of your characters resemble anyone you know?

Some of them, absolutely. Abby Raingold in The Experiment is closely based on my youngest sister, and Audrey Raingold is
somewhat based on me. Many of the characters in The Experiment are based on or inspired by friends. There aren’t many in
Time Captives that are based on real people, though I put a few elements of myself in Jill Hubbard (basically, she’s not
a morning person and she likes to read), and I put more of myself in Vannie Cumberland of Espionage, though she too is
quite her own person. Oddly enough, Allan and Joey remind me of two boys at my church I met after writing them.
5. How many books do you hope to write?

Goodness, I don’t know. As many as I can get out before God decides to take me home. I have about half a dozen right now
that are super anxious to get on paper or Word document, I have a notebook full of waiting ideas, and I’m always getting
new ones. There’s really no limit except what I can physically write in my lifespan. I don’t foresee myself ever fully
stopping writing, though I do imagine it would slow down significantly should I get married and have kids, as I hope
someday to do.
6. Any writing tips?

Madeleine L’Engle said the best writing advice she ever received was to just write. I think that’s an excellent tip. Just
writing is important. It keeps it fun, it keeps it natural, and it may be bad writing, but, on the other hand, it just may
be your most brilliant piece of work. Also read as much as you can. The best way to learn how to write well is to read
stories that are written well. It instills good writing skills in you in a way that writing how-to can’t possibly
accomplish. But reading writing how-to has its place, and I do recommend it. K. M. Weiland’s blog is an excellent resource
. I have learned from her why things do or don’t work and why I like some stories better than others. Write for yourself,
write for your family and friends, but most of all, write for God. The gift of writing ultimately comes from Him, and it
should be used for Him no matter what.
